As a child Ruby was always in awe of the beauty of the landscape and rivers of the Northwest where she grew up. “I would ponder for hours why a scene might seem bland one day and the next be pure magic. And perhaps I was able to store some of the answers away for painting years later.” Ruby was born and spent her childhood in the Northwest. After high school she moved to Denver and studied commercial art at Colorado Polytechnic College. Ruby worked as a technical illustrator at several companies including Martin Marietta. As technical illustration became scarcer she switched over to drafting and design for the engineering field. At the same time she continued to take painting classes and workshops. She and her husband of 32 years moved to southern California in the mid 1980’s for her husband’s job. There she met and studied traditional painting with Larry Gluck at Mission Renaissance Art School. It wasn’t long after starting classes with Larry that she began painting in plein-air. In 1999 Ruby and her husband moved back to Colorado where she still works in the engineering field while continuing with plein-air painting. Ruby is a member of Oil Painters of America and Plein Air Artists Colorado. |
